November 3rd, 2552 I think – Prisoner Politics
New Guy/Convict Consriptee Kat “S-Kat” James Reporting
While most of the convicts here belong to the Parataph, there are other races and species here. Today I got to work with two members of the Askmiri peoples. I think they were twins, but it’s hard to tell. One was male and the other female named, Askir and Almir.
Other than the Fates, who made themselves look like us, it would seem that the Askmiri are closest to human in thought and form. When I commented on this they simply laughed and one of them joked that they were going to say the same about me.
There was something in the way they looked at each other, I could tell they knew more than they were saying— but it wasn’t a keeping a secret kind of thing, but more of a ‘how long do you think it will take her to get it?’ look.
I’m not sure what was going on but something seemed familiar. When I told them the names of the ships in our fleet, they smiled, and when I told them the name of my ship, they actually laughed.
“Fregnvíss,” Askir commented.
“Víst,” Almir answered.
So, now, not only am I a prisoner, a threat, the new guy— I’m also an oddity of sorts.A
