357-Valkyrie’s View: A Year Among the Stars

December 22nd, 2552 – The War of Misdirection.
Consociation Pilot Kat James Reporting

Today, I got a better idea of our missions – yes we’re fighting a battle of misdirection but it seems that the Consociation is also playing that game with us.

Let’s face it, people don’t like airing their differences in public. It’s so much nicer, cleaner— more civilized if you keep it in the shadows, even better if you can get other people to fight it for you— then you only have to mop up the surviving forces.

That’s where we come in. The plan is to make this a concern for all parties involved. We need to make sure that mutually assured destruction, as primitive a threat as that is, actually applies to everyone.

It’s amazing how quickly not dying becomes everyone’s concern.

Traveling the void in stealth mode is of course a lot more difficult because as soon as you enter one of the pathways, the void walkers know where you are. They know where you’re going. And they know how to assist your navigation and get you where they want you to be and they can exert at least some of their will on the ship.

I’m pretty sure this is why I drew this assignment.

We know, at least theoretically, that someone could open a gate in the middle of one of their pathways and I’m one of the few human pilots who doesn’t need a ship to open the well. The ship just makes it easier.
