No way this ends well…
The diplomats want me to take them back to Baljatuun, Jatuun told me not to come back until I heard otherwise and of course I’m the only one who heard it or could understand what he was saying.
The military attache, the ship’s liaison officer, and Colonel Bridges all took one look at them, read my report, and shook their heads.
“We hold,” Col. Bridges informed them.
The diplomats tried to do an end-run around us, get another ship involved – even tried to bring up my record – and then Commander Daniels, Col. Bridges, and the Captain of the Boat all stared them down and told them to please read their documentation.
It’s amazing how the offer of being quartered in the brig makes people see their way. The diplomats waited as directed. The answer didn’t come until that night, and it came in the form of Lil’bit.
I was half asleep and made room for him on my pillow – and then there was the sensation of sandpaper in my ears as Jatuun spoke through my little reptilian friend- and it was hard to tell which of us was more startled by the outcome.
I could sense Jatuun’s apology in his message – but I”m pretty sure that was directed at Lil’bit.
