Learning the Parataph names for things even the basics of their language is— interesting. For negotiations and the like, they have a computer system that parses out a language and then translates for the listener but when you’re working and not hooked into the computer you have to work with the old-fashioned way.

The Ani who had been spying on us learned our language but they worked very hard to keep theirs under wraps. Each member nation has their own language but when the Parataph meet, they use a language that was created for communications between the other nations.

It’s both simpler and more complex because each nation has to focus on what is important to the Parataph rather than what is important to the people.

From what I can gather, the Askmiri are more focused on the mind and the way things process, the Ani are more about action and then individuals, and humans, well, we’re all about the individual and what sets them apart.

While the Parataph call me an envoy, I am a glorified lab rat that they’re training to perform menial tasks to keep me ‘sharp.’

Fortunately for me, that’s never been enough so I’m learning as much as I can from the people and equipment around me.

I’ve always been curious, and now there’s a lot more riding on my learning how to deal with what’s happening.
