December 10th, 2552 – Round-Up
Consociation Pilot Kat James Reporting
Something even more interesting than trying to evade the Lasatiea strike teams is trying to find people who are hiding from them.
Adalgisa tried to give us insight into the mindset of the survivors, to let us know what to look for but again, we’re crossing cultural barriers trying to not only find them but convince them that we are on their side.
As it is, the Ani have long been convinced that I am a subversive at best and there is nothing I can do to convince them otherwise.
The Lasatiea have really done a number on this area, cutting a swath through settlements, convoys, and fleets. All we can do is put out fires, collect strays, and get the hell out before anyone notices.
In many cases, the people we’re finding are more than willing to work together. The Parataph, after all, are a conglomeration of many different races, and many different species. But trying to convince them that working together is going to actually do anything other than make things worse, that’s the real issue.
The problem is as long as we let the Lasatiea run the show, and as long as we play their game, they’re going to win. If we’re to survive, we need to get them to play our game.
Too bad we really can’t decide what that is.
