336-Valkyrie’s View: A Year Among the Stars

We spent a lot of time discussing how to bring everyone to the table to deal with the situation. The current crew of the Gumbo knew the score, and with representatives of the Parataph, the Ani, and the Askmiri on board, we had a small, miniature alliance working together to make it happen.

Not that any of it was going to be particularly easy. We had to find each of our respective communities, get them to hold off on killing us, long enough for us to explain what was going on, and hopefully get them to talk to one another.

Adalgisa and the techs said they could navigate us to an ancient Parataph stronghold where they could hopefully contact their people. Askir and Almir admitted they could get a message to their people once we were well away from the void, which did not do a lot for the trust Adalgisia had put in them, but it really didn’t surprise anyone.

That left Tower and me to find the fleet, which admittedly, could be anywhere. The answer came in the form of a lizard who seemed to know where and when I am at all times. With some encouragement and a lot of kibble, Lil’bit was on board.

Of course, once we decided on letting everyone’s favorite teleporting lizard guide us – we ended up jumping in front of a Lasatiea scout ship. On the bright side, I’m getting better at opening multiple wells and jumping through all of them at once, and ending up in one place.

Yeah, the real trick is going to be avoiding our enemies long enough to get the Fleet talking to the Union; the Union talking to the Askmiri Council and getting the Fates to interact with all of us.

No big deal, right? I mean how hard can it be to get four very different alien groups to stop fighting and work together against a common enemy— it’ll be easy once we managed to convince them not to kill each other and that the real enemies are the Lasatiea and the Void Walkers.

Who am I kidding, I can’t even get my past and present selves to agree on who we’re fighting, how are we going to get so many different cultures to agree on anything?

I don’t know why I’m borrowing so much trouble, I mean we have to find everyone before we can even begin trying to get them to work together.

Lose the Lasatiea first, find the fleet second – save the world after that.
